The miniature, completed in July 1933, is a piano transcription of an allegro theme from the first movement of Trio for piano, violin and cello. The melody of the theme, initially “wandering” between the violin and the cello, is presented here alternatingly by the right and left hand, a device intended to imitate the effect of sound contrast.
