Grażyna Bacewicz
(1909–1969)
composer

A fellow composer. She and Mycielski liked to collaborate in matters concerning the composers community, both willing to help colleagues from the Polish Composers’ Union. In 1961 Bacewicz even wrote to Mycielski: “Have you noticed that when it comes to any everyday life matters of our colleagues (which are the most important in the end), only you and I deal with them?” (24 November 1961, Zygmunt Mycielski Archive, National Library). Their ballets – Mycielski’s Zabawa w Lipinach [Merrymaking at Lipiny] and Bacewicz’s Z chłopa król [Of the peasant king] – were presented during one evening, on 25 July 1954, at the Poznań Opera.
