But he looked at everything with detachment. When I last thought about him, I thought about the main character of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s famous Gattopardo – a great aristocrat, with magnificent traditions accumulating in him. It was similar with Zygmunt – having this great class, he had absolutely no interest in pursuing a career, but if defence of culture or music was at stake, he was always first to speak out irrespective of any harassment or repressive measures.
